Someone once asked me exactly what love is…

I pondered for a moment before I said this:

Love is complicated and somewhat tricky to spot

Perhaps it would be easier to say what it is not –

It’s not selfish or controlling, conditional or greedy

It’s unselfish and free, unconditionally given to the needy

It’s the nurturing of a mother as it’s given to a child

While its quickly reciprocated with just a gentle smile

It’s butterflies of anticipation on your first blind date

And the stillness of time when you combine with your soul mate

Love is honor and valor, the courage to face fear

Yet the soft, sweet whisper of fondness in your ear

It’s the beautiful words of your favorite love song

It flourishes when it’s right and corrects you when it’s wrong

Love is cold… passionately hot! But never lukewarm

When life’s a hurricane it’s your eye of the storm

It’s the long, hard journey, the pain in your feet

Also a job well done, it’s the mission complete

Love sometimes waits before its springs into action

To transform all hate with magnetic attraction

It changes colors every moment yet its Essence is changeless

You recognize it when you see it although It remains nameless

It’s center is everywhere and circumference is none

Without it we are nothing but with it – we are One!

Once you find it within you’ll come to understand

That Love’s never complicated; it simply says… “I AM!”

Let Your Goddess Grow! by Charlene Proctor
