there is a place
'a place I remember
was back in the fall
in middle November
you were in bloom
I was in tune
and we were so happy
just we two
days gone by days gone by
some days are old
some days are new
days gone by
don't ask why
nothing's forever
when days go by
carry
carry me back
back to the memory
of a sweet past
I still recall
I remember it all
it was so beautiful
the trees were so tall
the water was whispering
but who knew the words
only the wind
and the stars and the birds
days gone by
don't ask why
nothing's forever
when days go by
when we are gone
others will sing
others will dance
other bells will ring
days gone by
don't ask why
nothing's forever
when days go by
One of your very best. So lyrical and haunting. I hope you put it the melody on YouTube.
Reminds me of… "I dream of Jeannie with the light brown hair, floating in the breeze of the soft summer air." Stephen Foster
My Jeanie was and is a dancer. She always dyed her black hair with a tint of red and it was straight but not able to "float in the breeze." We parted because of differences we could not correct. And are still good friends. She still does her Proud Mary routine and sings/dances it very well. She's too shy to go on America's Got Talent
Good one, Joel. It creates a dimensional atmosphere and one of human identification, as we hear these lines and think of our own ‘back then.’ My favorite lines are the eight lines starting with “I still recall” Very beautiful, that. Thank you ~~ djl
