Lost

Careers were crucial

To both of them

more so for her,

than for him

A vital connection

Was lost in their lives

They had slowly drifted

didn’t know when or why

They did all the right things

Knew all the right folks

A success to their peers

Got caught up in the hoax

Then one day he said

“We need to talk”.

From the tone in his voice

She knew not to balk

 The gloom in his eyes,

 told something was wrong

he’d discovered her lies,

what she’d feared all along

nothing she could say

with tear- filled her eyes

would ease his dismay

when she offered to leave

hoping he would object

a thought not perceived

she asked “what to do”?

open and vulnerable

discussed their options too

but when she did confide

what she chose to hide,

while gazing into

his hazel eyes

she peered into his soul,

and found to her surprise

love waiting to be rekindled
