Short poem based on the realiation that life is never too busy to talk to those you love

 Memories they linger

 In a world so far away

Reminders of the times gone by

The songs of yesterday

 

Thinking of what’s happening

All the joy I’m missing

Pondering do they think of me?

Or just me reminiscing

 

Our phone calls are getting shorter

I’m just too busy to text

I’ll do it in the morning

Now time to reflect

 

Seeing posts from friends

People they have lost along the way

Yearning for that one further talk

For the words they did not say

 

Now I am reminded

That nothing lasts forever

Time it waits for no one

No matter the endeavour

 

I’ll power down the devices

Just switch off all I own

Pick up the phone and call you all

For one day, I’ll be alone

Two trips through this poem, I place a yellow highlighter over these two lines: “Yearning for that one further talk/For the words they did not say” . . I love that. But even more do I love those last four lines….what a punch they pack, and yet what a glorious concept. I savor the line: “Just switch off all I own”. . wonderful! ~~ djl

Great verses outlining something that we all face as we age. Family and friends disappearing from our grasp before we have time to talk to them about whatever's on their mind. Some great advice at the end. Something I've thought about recently but haven't done. Get on the phone and call them all.

In my younger years I often drove way out of my way in my travels to stop and see elderly relatives that were getting more isolated with every day, some of them in nursing homes or alone in their houses. They all greeted me with great pleasure and I didn't hurry my time with them. Much wisdom comes from talking with your elders.

Beautiful verse. Now that I'm older, and hopefully wiser, I can relate. I enjoyed this poem a lot. God Bless U and yours
