The Queen

Did he have the Queen?
I'd worked for a month,
a month of back-breaking
labor in the sun.

Now in this border saloon
half my wages in the pot,
and the other half to see
the grinning Mexican?

I had two Jacks, there was
a Queen on the river.
Did he have another? I called.
He turned.There she was.Her Majesty.
