Circles of Smoke
© Jaimey Perham 05/10/2010
A group of good friends sit in a circle around the fire
They share once forgotten memories now alive with desire
The circles of the smoke from the Hakka and fire drift wild
All cards finally put face up on the table true and tired
Past pains of the heart forgiven now open in the mire
Still however, repeated mistakes reborn with new attire
Fresh faces join the party and roaming romances move higher
Bottles of wine now served to the guests chilled and mild
Snow falls from the heavens as night closes in where they gather
A clown in the crowd passes by playing the part of the liar
An elderly old man reads a book of poems written by his father
A teenage runaway hiding from her alcoholic mother
Broke down sister ashamed of her brother
The group of old and new friends continue to talk without bother
As circles of smoke drift into another…
Peace,
Dayvid
