Our footsteps
littered the virginal whiteness
of that crisp morning,
the sky tinged
the darkest blue
as night fizzling out
all around us.
Snow drizzled
like angelic dandruff,
slowly shaken
off the ages.
Branches twisted
and snapped
with sickening pops,
dropping brokenly
to the forest floor.
We asked for nothing more.
And gratefully received it.
