I haven’t always believed that angels waited to help me,
With their bright eyes and hidden wings.
Floating passengers here and in between,
Only for my eyes to see.
Take my promises with your silver tongues in heavenly collars,
And hold them to me.
A shift and a pitch is all it took,
The world tore open and the ground shook.
Hell opened its mouth,
And all the angels could do was look.
The children who once danced in their colorful clothes now collapsed on deadly thrones.
With posy pockets, sticks, and stones.
Stillness surrounds and Earth binds me to its shambled floor.
Held tightly by vined grips
My head aches with the silent screams,
Hanging from their lips.
As I try to go to sleep,
And let go of my haunting dreams…
I have to remember that all God’s laws are not our own
And we may never know what all this means.
An apt, timely, and meaningful write, Mariah. As for me, when it comes to angels, I do not know where I'd be today if they had not "stepped up" many times along the way. Thank you. Love and best wishes,
Regis
