Goodbyes

We’re never told
Perhaps to spare the way that we would cry
Or feel so cold
If we believed it was the last goodbye.

We never knew
Or I for one could not have left you there
But guess it’s true
I’ll never see you, ever, anywhere.

It was the end
If I had known, I never could survive.
But I’ll pretend
And somehow keep on feeling I’m alive.

What had to be
For reasons, I may never understand
But just can’t see
A single place where it is safe to land.

I see your face
If only how I saw it once back then
Without a trace
Or clue I would not see the light again.

Goodnight dear one-
I’ll love you ‘till my last adoring breath
What’s done is done
If life did this- what’s there to fear from death?
