Lashing out from the depths of one’s soul,
shadows of a lonely Raven in silent flight,
upon a moonlit night it often takes it’s toll,
beneath the haunting full moon ever bright.
Ghostly shadows dance mocking ageless time,
flickering realm of mortality left upon the earth,
their existence real or an illusion of one’s mind,
never knowing, left in confusion since our birth.
The death defying sounds of the howling wind,
hearts skips a beat, stopping dead in their tracks,
voices in the shadows from whence you’ve been,
panic manifest to terror in the courage one lacks.
Luminescing light fog floats adrift in the cold air,
moving, penetrating essence with a freezing chill,
overcome with a strange feeling beyond compare,
alone in desperation without control of one’s will.
In the darkness strange happening seem to flourish,
a lonely owl upon a branch it’s peering eyes on fire,
in a land of predators where spilling blood can nourish,
ghostly spirits feast in the silence of the moon’s delight.
Jerry Lowenstein, an octogenarian and a nice guy, has written a fantastic mystery/ suspense novel that takes place just after WW2 on and near Bikini Atoll. He actually witnessed an atomic bomb test. Can you imagine that?
