The Mystery and Majesty of Twilight
by John Herlihy
In dusk the mystery and majesty of twilight,
Who on earth could ever imagine or reckon.
The departure of day and the coming of night,
Distant stars awaken to darkness and beckon.
The hour ethereal as the sky witnesses change,
From sky blue to regal purple to scarlet blush.
As if the hem of the earth must itself rearrange,
The dying day now breathes forth a quiet hush.
From minarets echo the beloved call to prayer,
The faithful enter the mosque with heads bowed.
A veil of contentment and peace their faces wear,
As the limp body of the day wrapped in a shroud.
One brief moment as the world dies a little death,
A celestial moment to breathe out tongues of fire.
The day finally expires issuing forth its final breath,
While the orbiting earth puts on its nocturnal attire.

The hush ...
"One brief moment as the world dies a little death,
A celestial moment to breathe out tongues of fire.
The day finally expires issuing forth its final breath,
While the orbiting earth puts on its nocturnal attire."
Yes! I enjoyed reading and contemplating ...
