Nothing Lasts Forever

They say that nothing lasts forever
But I can think of a few things
Some things last forever and ever
Nothing can bring them back – ever
My childhood now long since gone
My beloved parents now gone with it
Can anyone say this is not forever
When everyone knows this is forever
My youth and adolescents now gone
All those dreams now gone with it
When some things are truly gone
They are truly gone forever and ever
The music stops at the end of the song
That particular moment gone forever
Can the post be brought back to life
The simple answer must be: no, never
Still, we are advised never to say never
And similarly told never to say forever
Ultimatums have a way of being wrong
Never might turn forever, a fatal gong
Some things seem to last forever
War, hardship, doubt, despair
Things that we wish happened never
Yet happened they did, caught in a snare
