Skinny Water?

All my lovely fans and those who take the trouble to review my light-verse stories know I write about things that happen to me, or opinions I have, and this one is another of those , and it's all to do with what we're told we can and can't eat. This, I have to confess, is off the back of consuming four, yes FOUR boxes of Matchmakers over the Christmas period without a shred of guilt.

It’s been these days all over the news, on what we can consume

If it’s sugar or high fat you choose, that’s taboo you can assume

We can’t eat eggs or too much meat, and rice and carbs are out

They say fruit rots your teeth, think twice, what’s that all about?

What’s that you cry, we can’t eat bread and pasta is a no-no

And anything substituted instead, that too will be a no-go.

While always being partial to fish, now you have to be so careful

For seafood is another dish for which you must be fearful

Now I am presently gluten-free, no wheat, no rye, no malt

It seems no foods are guilty-free, don’t get me started on salt

I could consider vegan, so no animal protein, only veg

The strictness of this even, makes me unkeen; puts me right on edge

Now we’re drinking skinny water; eating burnt toast isn’t smart

If we adhere to what we oughta, dairy’s at most bad for the heart

It’s quite ridiculous when looking at what is actually banned

Something quite innocuous, now is not, and must now be canned

And you can forget your fizzy drink since drinking soda is a crime

It can make you feel dizzy when thinking what you can’t have, all the time

Sometimes disapproval of tasty foods can often be distressing

And to go without your favourite puds can somewhat be depressing

They want you under strict rule, everything is ‘lite’ - dieting is for keeps

The ‘secret lemonade drinker’ still looks cool, at night, as down the stairs he creeps

Well I’ve had enough of it you hear, I won’t be curtailed in my own diet

Straddling my soapbox in protest here, refusing hitherto to remain quiet

And if they find my shrivelled corpse and can’t find a clear explanation

The autopsy in black and white reports, my demise was simply of sheer starvation

I really like the way you ended this rant. On the other hand, a little starvation never hurt anybody. Those folks that go "Naked and Afraid," for the most part discover what starvation and going without drinking any water really amounts to. In fact, if we study starving populations, while they may suffer from malnourishment, for the most part they live long lives and our disease-free. My sister just lost a ton of weight by going on a fast every other day. Also gives more time on those other days not preparing to eat or eating meals.

"Skinny" water is for the birds. Anything that falls from the sky or is filtered by the earth itself is the best water available because it contains essential minerals.

In my lifetime, we've gone from, eggs are good for you, to eggs are bad, then back to eggs are good, and now back to eggs are bad. What's a person to do? Bobby Bare did a song written by Shel Silverstein, call Food Blues. It's worth checking out if you haven't heard it. I think as long as eat in moderation, it's all good. I enjoyed this write as much as you enjoyed your boxes of Matchmakers, whatever those are.

I like Jerry will always eat and drink what I like, life is too short to make that a worry

Eh, I am seventy-eight and have never given in to those screaming ads about what I should, and should not eat. I eat what I like. Have done so all of my life.
