Once while walking alone through the forest black
It became so white I couldn’t find my way back
Ahead I saw through the blowing swirling snow
A row of oaks to shield me from the stinging blow
Every step forward a struggle in the heavy wet snow
It was an eternity before I reached that safer hollow
A place for some respite from the alpine winds attack
I huddled down among the branches and leaned back
Sleep meant my life through my choices were few
All options were reviewed I refused to bid life adieu
My bones could feel the cold fingers of death nearby
But I knew with all my heart I wasn’t going to die
I might have dozed off to sleep this I can’t deny
For the teeth numbing cold sang a sweet lullaby
I felt a radiant warmth that warmed me through
And a calmness that I wanted only to continue
I looked over my shoulder to see a white steed
The frigid cold and my fears began to recede
My very first thought was I must be delirious
His kind no longer existed it was miraculous
I had the thought I was still dreaming I profess
For one of his kind to exist was too incredulous
I heard his thinking in my head as he disagreed
Belief is all you need; belief is all you ever need
I awoke to the brightness of the morning sun
I quickly checked to see if it was imagination
The imprint of his frame in the snow was there
I searched but couldn’t find him anywhere
I tramped confused, dazed back into the town
And as I left the forlorn woods I turned around
I heard a whisper in my head say Godspeed
I knew that he was indeed no ordinary steed
So if you find yourself lost in a foreign forest
Or just when you are feeling you’re lowest
Remember his words, “Belief is all you need”
It is so, because the eternal unicorn decreed
