This is the first poem I had written after a 25-year absence from writing. For many reasons, it will always remain a piece of significance for me.
~ Tami

It was because of conversations that I had with a very wise, wonderful man that this poem was given life.  This man, whom I proudly call my friend, has been an absolute inspiration to me, and I'll be forever blessed by his unselfish sharing and for the incredibly precious gift of being who he is.  It is to him that I dedicate this poem.

For me, The Rain resembles the negative things that have happened in my life, coupled with the fact that I’ve learned not to look at them as negatives.  At long last, I’m finally wise enough to learn from those things, and rather than simply accepting them as stumbling blocks, I allow them to help me grow.  Ultimately, I’ve learned to open my heart, mind, and soul and accept The Rain (the storms in my life), as positive things – as growth opportunities, and it has been those growth opportunities which have afforded me my strength, my tenacity, and my indomitable will.  I am enlightened by The Rain; The Rain has helped me to become who I am, and I'll always remain...  Thirsty for the Rain.

Thirsty for the Rain

I have been seeking…

reaching within…

and listening.

Sometimes the distant thunder
announces its impending arrival,
and I'm warned the rain is imminent.

Some days it merely drizzles.
On others, the skies empty its offerings by the bucketful.

If I pay attention,
and reach out for it,
I get wet.

Soaking wet.

My soul aches for the rain.

Thirsts for it...

Absorbs it…

And I am grateful.

Ah, so often we find ourselves so involved in human activities and relationships we simply don't stop to smell the roses or admire and value our natural rainfall.

"Thirsty for the Rain" is totally refreshing.

I hear what you speak - after the passing of my grandmother I have picked up my pen again after 15 years - and it was a poem to her. I understand oh so well... BRAVO - masterful piece!

I agree, Tami. The rain can be therapeutic and it certainly is symbolic of much. Thank you for sharing this gift. Love and peace,

I know it sounds strange, but if it weren't for the negatives that plague our lives, we couldn't appreciate all the positives as much as we do. In every life, the rain must fall -- as an old song went, "... we pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off and start all over again ..."
More power to you, Tami -- and I'm glad you're writing again!
Love & a big hug,
CJ

We often moan about the rain forgetting that God sends it for our good. We all benefit by it. Not only to water the fields and clear the air and streets, but also to water our lives. Simple but stimulating poem. Reminded me to thank God for the rain.
