As I was walking by you yesterday
I picked up one of your emotions by mistake
And put it in my basket.
When I got home and looked at it I found it strange indeed to find it in my space
For it would not fit into my lifestyle.
It was the emotion that opens its arms to faith
But it refused my invitation to consider my voice and adapt itself to me.
It put an ugly vice--grip on my heart
And clamps upon my strength,
It thrust nails into my brains
And sapped my vital energies,
And when it felt it had me it rushed me with your myths
To make me act like you,
Dogmatic and aggressive. And specially chosen by your God
It forced me to be humble
With that cockiness that goes with possissing "the Answer"
For it had all the right answers in its three bullish hands.
I'm sorry I picked up your emotion yesterday
So I'm returning it to you today.
It put me through a long long night of hell
I wish never to repeat.
A deeply meaningful poem I'm so glad you posted.
