Will we ever get past this pandemic??

Of pandemic spread all about, The governors open their states too soon, The people think it’s alright to end self-quarantine, Some wear a mask to protect themselves, They all live their lives like normal, thinking it a boon. Will China take over the United States without a fight? Given they were the start of the virus that did kill US, Then sent to our shores many infected simply by flight, No one on our shores did realize we were being infected, And we were informed by those that were elected, That we were safe; long did it take before the virus was detected. Told we were to wash our hands, do not touch our face, The wearing of a mask seemed to come late, With the rest of the world searching for a cure we were in a race, The summer months were fast approaching & we could hardly wait, We wanted the virus gone right away, for the ocean & beach we were at the gate. Have we gotten any better, so many deaths, so many in hospital, how many more to come!?? © -ed- 7/19/20

The statistics show that we value our freedom above all. So many don't believe what the media or the government tells them anymore, relying on their friends to set their standards of behavior. Americans are so spoiled when it comes to freedom we have been given through our Constitution. We tend to rebel against any positive change simply because it's in our nature never having had war on our shores for over four generations. Too long to remember the hardship and pain that doing the right thing sometimes brings. We look at those history lessons as heroic rather than what they were.

Your poem asks a lot of questions, some of which are answered in some of which are not. The Coronavirus is new, and everyone in the medical field hasn't figured it out. But it is clear what to do to prevent the spread. Mask up and prevent 90% of the virus being transmitted the next person. Countermeasures will come. They take time to develop and check for safety.

Adolescent behavior is very difficult to irradicate when society nurtures and encourages such in order to maintain greater control. Would that the teen minded adults took responsibility for their less than respectable behavior, the country would see a renaissance. If only.

That's a question without an answer, but with the lack of leadership in DC, it's a safe bet there will be a lot of unnecessary deaths to come. It seems we are living in a land of fear and acceptance, that things are only going to get worse.

Indeed, it�s as if we�re resigning ourselves to annihilation in one guise or another.
Maybe it's from multi areas as we build upon Washington's fear and hate, rather than build a brotherhood of man, egos prefer to destroy than step back with equanimity and choose a path that recognises the depths of each other's cultures and values.
