Oft I will ask myself...
"What's the point?"
As the years add on
body parts do become worn.
If the quality of life is not up to snuff...
why must I continue to huff and puff?
"What's the point?"
Getting from point A to point B
ain't as easy as it used to be
what with Peripheral Neuropathy.
Breathlessly I greet each day with glee
with a condtion called COPD
but is difficult to function with no gumption.
"What's the point?"
People all tell me I look great...
but deep down I feel like dregs of Hades gate.
Looking in the mirror of days gone by
'twas a full life while I had my wife.
But since she is gone I am quite forlorn
finding it hard to carry on.
"What's the point?"
We have been uptown, downtown. all around...
always together to love and share.
Needing someone to talk to and care
there is little in this world I long to do.
"What's the point?"
John, in your bio you said you "have no idea what you are doing but you're having a wonderful time". Well, the rest of us have a wonderful time enjoying your creativity.
Keep it up and don't give up, we are counting on it buddy!

Nonsense! Tell that to Col. Sanders who started his business in his 70's. Tell that to Grandma Moses who became a famous painter when she was 90. They were not retired, they got re-fired up in their latter years of life. WE- have NO EXCUSES! So stop bellyaching! As my old high school girlfriend told me at 17, "Wake up and die RIGHT!" Amen!
So many people at such very young ages have been committing suicide. Why? Because they saw no point in living. Janis Joplin, whom the whole world loved, felt unloved. You ask, "What's the point?" while you are sharing such beautiful poems and have authored books??? I think you are missing the point, hon. There is more to write! Write on!!!
I also belong to the COPD club, John, among other ailment which can kill me. Even so, and I consider myself lucky. I get around fairly well, even though my "get around" is becoming more a huffing an puffing than it did even a year ago. Like I said, I have other life-threatening problems. It's like that old Tennessee Ernie Ford song that says, "If the right one don't get you, then the left one will."
