Good grief?
Oh yeah...
depending how you look at it.
As we plod along this uncharted pathway
on our journey through life...
we do so one day at a time.
At birth we are blessed with a one-way ticket to ride...
and there is no route back.
Each day we rise and move on.
Sooner or later there will come to pass
one day that we reach the end of the path...
we just know not when.
Along the way we all lose someone close.
It is inevitable, it is nature's way.
But when it does occur
it comes as a complete surprise.
Yet we somehow survive and the world goes on.
Strange as it may seem...
for some it is cause for relief...
for most, however, it is cause for a period of grief.
Grief is a natural response to loss
and the experience is unique to each person.
We all share one thing in common...
we have lost someone close and feel alone.
However...
be it known to all mankind
we are not alone.
We are alone...
TOGETHER.
There's much wisdom in this poem reaching almost everyone.
While I have suffered great loss through botched surgery and the loss of potential mates who left me rather than deal with it, I have not suffered the loss you describe, even at my age. I felt no grief when my grandparents and my father died (I looked at it as a relief from his nine months of suffering) and have not lost a close friend yet.
But it will come, and I'm not sure I'm prepared for it to happen.
This is a beautiful piece! Yes, we don't know when the time of our death will be upon us. The bible says: "like a thief in the night!" Nature wins out. How prepared are we for the inevitable?
