A little while ago,

In a different place.

A friend said some words,

I was in the wrong space.

Down by the water I stood,

He there with a smile on his face.

Newt smiled, he said “Don’t go changin’”

Though he caught me off guard,

Where by the water I stood.

His words marked me slowly,

Shrouded by my hood.

I smiled with some arrogance,

I had not understood.

So that’s how I replied.

Though I snuck out, unnoticed,

From his words, I could not hide.

I thought they let me alone,

Instead they hid, deep inside.

With an absence of mind,

And a scar from the start.

I stood down by the water,

Watched as it broke my heart.

Perhaps love is like pain,

The two cannot come apart.

“Change is inevitable”,

I thought in my head.

“Without, there’s no constant”,

Still my heart filled with dread.

I knew he was right,

With his words I was fed.

So I sought greater meaning,

And was lost in deep thought.

Realizing down by the water,

I was something I’m not.

I thank God for his words,

I Am’s all I’ve got.

Though it took me a while,

I think I know what he meant.

Not about what is outward,

Nor time and life spent.

But as for my soul,

That space I should not rent.

When I look at Newt now,

I’m a little bit green.

He stands tall, strong, and proud,

With no shame in his scene.

Newt, you should know you were right,

Your words will not go unseen.

For I hear them, and I won’t go changin’.
