The GAP, Sydney, place of breathtaking beauty.............suicide location.
Many jumped from the GAP after battling...several depression, bipolar disorder...
human deception, broken heart...depleted of zest for life.- Isabella Koldras

Tanka Poem and Photo by Isabella Koldras

Poem Artwork

The Gate of Hope jammed

excited pessimists crawl

....one by one... beneath

found in fence  GAP  bringing doom

and gloom with them..... pushing hard

over each other

widen the entrance.....little...

on their way through.... and

making easier for rest to

follow......    Sad  dark  negative

feelings sealed your heart.

In no time  joy turns sorrow

clouds darken the sky.....

....suffocating breath..........Act now

take chance...other way out... gulp

.....run to exit.....breathe...

breathe in Love... Hope...... Safe your  life!

Really that simply....

at least now when more savvy

words filled your heart... soul  ...still left

much to learn for mind.

Breathe in.... guts, fearless courage

that offers your mind

more finished shapes, forms

of beauty....than Verse, Art can.

Breathe out..... the cheap flattery,

exaltation won by chance,

breathe in......work designed

for great achievements, merits,

awe, respect......by honest Man.....

Then....take deep breathe out....

.....cunning dissimulation

for the public to

respect you for your tricks, luck,

breathe in...bursting with

youth coquettish skin,

breathe out.... ridiculous man,

both.....without concern

wooing.....talk......and promise love

in unattainable hues.

To rescue yourself....

breathe in.... a little folly

necessary to

help you out ....when breath shallows,

help out .....of depression  when

your mood starts to lift....

after you finished treatment

sedated......over.......

breathe in ...the safeguards

to protect health, mind, your soul.

Breathe out.... strict diets...

....recommended by "experts"

to restrict calories, carbs,

fats,....which is a tiresome step,

illness by itself.......Indeed.....

Take deep breath..........Breathe in

the view across the Lake, calm

Peace....... Relaxation

Returning to you.......Yoga

feel..... ride of Life.... light of Hope

Hug from stranger..... Laugh....

.....whether it's funny or not.....

take in........ Awareness

delivered by wind......breathe in.....

Walk by water steady waves.

Climb....... high enough to

see city sky, lights....... mountain

overlooks.......Take in

Confidence.. ....New Frame of Mind.....

Doooon't quiiiit!...........get back....Zest for Life.

This journey was powerful to read. I felt an appreciation for all those who help others veering towards suicide. I got this image of a solid dark space and the work involved to loosen it up breath by breath. A feat indeed when the suffering one is being suffocated and can't even move a muscle!

Very meaningful and precious words!

Wishing you a creative weekend!

With respect and smiles galore...

Carol

It is as simple as breathing, and when we "just do it," our lives become less restricted, more positive, hopeful.
Thank you for sharing and reminding us how simple it is to live meaning lives.
Continued success-

The discipline necessary to write in the Tanka form has always interested me. I, too, use the tanka as a vehicle to tell stories. I call them 'Tanka Trains'. The message of your poem, and your heart, is felt deeply within the snippets of your phraseology. Enjoyed this ... richard

I do not know why they seek suicide, especially the beautiful and talented. But they do. Your poem seems to provide a way for escaping the thought by positive solutions to the problem. Very creative and instructive.
