This is the practical joke, the outcome of a prank.
As it happened to be April Fool Day,
and there happened to be
a large bowl of walnuts on the table,
the thought grabbed me
to take some loose walnuts,
open up a few of them,
and glue them back together
with a small paper note placed inside.
My Dad was fond of eating walnuts.
Months later Dad came to me scratching his head.
“A most unnatural thing has occurred,” he said.
“As I was cracking open walnuts,”
“a small paper note came out instead.”
“And on the small paper note it said:”
“April Fool, ha, ha, ha!”
“Do you know anything about it?”
“No.”

Sometimes a prank is not timely enough. My brother tells the story where he was hired by a small company just before Christmas, just before the consulting firm he worked for dissolved. He told me that he had an office with a computer (something rare at that time) and ate lunch with the president. Everything was going fine until April 1.
