Those Hairy Legs

by Dadfire — Read all 70 poems by Dadfire

For all you morning coffee drinkers.

Poem Artwork

Those Hairy Legs

I always drink me something
in the morn first thing I do
to wet my dry and scratchy throat
before I'm off to school

now you can have your juices
your apple, orange and such
they're mostly sugar anyway
just ask a health food nut

I thought to try some coffee
just like my parents do
they look like two old zombies
before they get their brew

but I'm getting off the subject
as I mentioned hairy legs
what's that got to do with coffee
so let me now explain

so one sleepy tired morning
I stumbled through the den
to the table in the kitchen
and got a cup to fill

nowdays they make it easy
for some coffee to begin
just push a little button
and out it comes again

so in anxious anticipation
as minutes seemed to pass
I hovered like a mother hen
to hatch that cup at last

with one eye barely open
I squint into the light
reaching for my cup that's full
in happy pure delight

I raise the cup up to my lips
and right up to my nose
I close my eyes and with a smile
begin to drink it in

now I had drank 'bout half the cup
when I felt a' scratchin' in my throat
I drank some more to wash it down
then looked inside my cup and found

something floating in there too
oh gosh, what's this, what do I do
then shivers passed my body through
as I gasped in horror to further view

the biggest spider, legs and all
like hairy ones you see on walls
but only half of it remained
the other half, that half I drank

with sweating brow and weakened knees
could barely stand, could hardly breathe
I coughed and coughed to clear my throat
in hopes to throw the spider up

in vain I tried an hour spent
to get him up but down he went
at least he's gone, though gone not far
he's in my stomach like in a jar

I shook and shivered most the day
thinking only of those hairy legs
as every time I closed my eyes
those hairy legs would come to mind

so remember now when you get up
before you sip or take a sup
it's wise to look inside your cup
right before you fill it up

and to this day, I slowly creep
up to my cup to take a peek
and once I'm there I hope to find
no hairy legs of any kind

The biggest thing I found in brew was a good old cockroach, or maybe a fruit fly or two.
But I just slurp them down with glee, I hear those bugs got more protein than me.

Even if it was a tarantula, it's pretty good to eat. Black widow? Brown recluse? That coffee had better be very strong!

reminds me of the old song about the old lady and the fly.

I know an old lady who a fly.
I don't know why but she swallowed a fly
(other lines).. then
She swallowed the spider to catch the fly that wiggled and jiggled inside her...
I think you are supposed to swallow the whole thing for that to work though.

lots more fun to read than experience I'm sure

When this happens,
don't worry about what to do.
Just go on with your day,
and turn that spider into poo.

This happened to me one night when I went to take my eve. meds. Unknown to me, my daughter had been picking head lice out of my g-kids hair and putting them in a small cup from the batroom dispenser. I grabbed my meds and that cup. filled it with water, and down the hatch went meds, lice and all. Never knew a thing until my daughter asked what happened to the lice she had put in that cup. kinda gross, huh?

Never happened to me. Not that I know it. I set up my ten-cup Mr. Coffee before I go to bed at night. My coffee cup is resting on paper towel upside down.

I would be scarred for life! That had to be traumatic. I know I'll look into every coffee cup from now on before I use it. Thanks for the "heads up"!

Love ya!
