Wise Man

Poem Artwork

 Wise Man

When I was a young man
I thought I knew it all,
never would I listen,
to anyone at all.
Then I heard a wise man,
who said he'd seen it all,
he said one day oh young man,
I'll be the one you call.
Then one day the young man
was headed for a fall,
he sought wisdom from the wise man,
the man who'd seen it all.
But by this time the wise man,
had answered his own call
and gone was the wise man,
not there to take the call
now the young man wished he'd listened
to the man who'd seen it all.
For each young man is given
only one father after all,
so listen to this wise man
while there he's still to call
cause soon one day oh young man
you might be the one to call

Thanks for the comments guys, just something simple I woke up with in my head at 5:30 am after going to bed at 2 a.m after a hard day of fishing, LOL! In reality for me, my father died when I was a young child and wish I actually could have had the opportunity to of had this experience with my dad, I would take imperfect experience over non-existent any day.

Wise advice from a wise poet. John

Great advice. Fathers and sons have a tendency to grow apart for various reasons. But they should put ego aside and come together as the father gets older because he can pass on much to his son. Up to his dying day, my father revealed to me many things that I didn't know about his earlier life that I failed to ask. Now that he is gone and I am a writer, I find I should've asked him many, many more questions.
