Hey Mr. Gator, Why Don't You Leave Me Alone
Now it was such a lovely, sunny day
the water looked so fine
I thought I'd take a little swim
and get some piece of mind
I was soaking up the sunshine
calmly floatin' in the bay
takin' in that salty air
it was such a perfect day
but then I saw two big dark eyes
a' heading straight for me
at first I stared and wondered
what in the world those eyes could be
but then I shook and shivered
from the shock of what I'd see
a dang ole gator swimming fast
he was heading straight for me
Hey Mr. Gator
why don't you, leave me alone
take one bite of me you'll see
I'm bad down to the bone
I said, Hey, Mr. Gator
why don't you, leave me alone
take one bite of me you'll see
I'm bad down to the bone
Now I didn't know what could I do
'cause the shore was far away
but I knew I couldn't stay right here
I had to get away
so I swam as fast as I could go
but I still was moving slow
that gator ten times fast as me
and I had no place to go
then I spotted this old cedar tree
that was right in front of me
I beat the gator there and hid
by the trunk of that old tree
so I peeked out from behind that tree
but he still was coming fast
I thought this'll be the end of me
how much longer can I last
Hey Mr. Gator
why don't you, leave me alone
take one bite of me you'll see
I'm bad down to the bone
I said, Hey Mr. Gator
why don't you, leave me alone
take one bite of me you'll see
I'm bad down to the bone
the only thing now left to do
I'll try with all my might
to try and climb that cedar tree
and hope he goes on by
well I climbed up to the first big branch
and I was holding on for life
but that gator sat there gazing up
with those cold dark glassy eyes
then I heard a popping, cracking noise
and the branch began to break
then the branch and me went tumbling down
right down into the lake
now we hit the water mighty hard
and right on the gator's head
landing right on top of him
so I figured I was dead
but we both laid there and didn't move
now I started feeling bad
for hurting that poor gator
by falling on his head
I finally got back to the shore
and to this day I've heard it said
stories of an old gator there
with this big bump upon his head
they say he's moving awfully slow
and when he's even seen
they spot him lying gazing still
up in that cedar tree
Love ya!
