Borrowed Delusion

Our life on loan.

Poem Artwork

No sooner I think of tomorrow
than it's the day that's had its run
Then I try to catch the moment
but the moment has slipped and gone
Today will soon be tomorrow
and tomorrow will be over and done
Time's only a borrowed delusion
of something I thought I owned

They say you can't take it with you
so what's the use of holding on
for something you think'll be coming
but by then it's come and gone
Today keeps showing the promise
like a rose to be adored
but it's only a trick past the moment
for in a flash it's withered and gone

So all I got is this moment
There's no past, no future to hold
for it's only in each moment
you're given the chance to know
So reach out to hug each moment
let them guide you through the storm
Time's only a borrowed delusion
of something I thought I owned

No sooner I think of tomorrow
than it's the day that's had its run
Then I try to catch the moment
but the moment has slipped and gone
Today will soon be tomorrow
and tomorrow will be over and done
Time's only a borrowed delusion
of something I thought I owned.

Wonderful flow and rhyme. A wise pen. I find at the last years of my life it seems there is no time and I lived all these years that feel more like a few days. A thought provoking poem.

I really think you could put a melody to this. When things get near the end of a lifetime seems to be compressed into a moment and of little consequence in the course of history… Unless of course, one has made a mark on history that is indelible with time.

Dan,

That is a deep thought. Owning time? I never thought of it that way.
I always thought of it as something to be spent, but in order to spend it, I guess you must own it. Neat.

Great to see you are still writing.

Looks like you have been busy with all that borrowed time. Congratulations on finishing your novel. Will check it out.

Hey guys! Sorry, I haven't been on the den much lately as I was finishing my coming of age little novel, Little River, (used my pen name Dadfire if you look for it) about a boy named Bean, over the last year. Check it out. Finished narrating the audio version myself and should be on Audible and iTunes soon. I have also been very involved in my music and performing that keeps me busy and hope to get out an album soon with all those song lyrics/poems put to music that I have here on the den. I have truly missed all of you!
