Sleep You Do Or Sleep You Don't

Poem Artwork

Sleep You Do Or Sleep You Don't

Some days I get up early
some days I get up late
some nights I cannot sleep at all
some nights I meditate
at times I dream a little
at times I dream a lot
some nights it's like a movie
with a long entire plot

Some nights I lie there thinking
of things I had not thought
wondering where they came from
these thoughts I hadn't thought
I haven't watched the TV
or listened to the news
nothing's changed, it's all the same
morning, night or noon

I could listen to some music
or start to write a song
but that would keep me up the night
instead of bed where I belong
then a storm might rage the night
and a siren screams on by
and another and another
and then I'm wondering why

But sleep will come and sleep will go
so why worry what to do
you either sleep or sleep you don't
it's not a thing you choose
for someday soon that sleep you seek
will finally yield its due
and you can sleep and sleep and sleep and sleep
for then sleep...is all you'll do

No offense to your writing skills, Dan
but Wm. Munsell's advice is spot on.

If sleep refuses wont come and there's a song that you want to write
fight it not for if you do you will be awake all night
So get that song on paper if you must stay awake
Because waiting for your final sleep is a big mistake

You certainly touched all the bases of sleeping that I have experienced. More so lately than earlier when sleep was something I just did when I was ready and rose from when I was ready as well… Generally at 6 AM when that damn alarm went off.

Ron

PS. Those last lines look like a different kind of sleep, but it's okay to dream on what they might be. ;-)
