I want to be a tree

I saw it on the internet & wanted it for me
Be planted in a pod, that turns into a tree
What a wonderful idea, to help a tree to flourish
A beautiful forest, that discarded bodies nourish.

When it's time to pass on, leave this body behind
No more need of this earthly figure to bind
An empty shell, the spirit moved on
What makes me 'me', will truly be gone.

I don't want a coffin made from oak or teak
Expensive flowers that die in a week
These things are such a waste of money
The flowers should grow, for bees to make honey.

Family & friends travel far and wide
To say goodbye at a solemn graveside
Much better to think of a tree so fresh
Sustaining new life from discarded flesh.

A tree makes oxygen for others to breathe
A wondrous gift for the deceased to leave
An organic burial, makes good use of space
A sacred forest, makes an enchanted place
Where animals and birds can exist and thrive
When this earthbound body is no longer alive
How wonderful if this is my destiny
To become a tree, when I'm no longer 'me'.
