When I was young I knew a lot
All there's to know- or so I thought
With passing years it dawned on me
Not all things are - they seem to be
There's always something more to learn
Font of knowledge at every turn

A very wise tale in a poem. Why I never bothered with memorization routines. I memorized how to find things I needed to know.
As I age and lose sight of the facts, I have found that just asking my friendly AI what I'm looking for, he/she thinks a minute, and comes up with the answer. I love it when I don't have to wreck my brain to find out some little fact that somebody on Jeopardy has stored in their immense memories to win money in memory contests.
But as you wrote so well, knowing a lot doesn't make one wise. Knowing how to use what you know well is something you tend to learn from good mentors like I have.
