She sits among the billowing waves
and knows not when she misbehaves.
She splashes from the slimy rocks
and knows not how to wear her frocks.
The dolphins come to say "hello,
and how be you today, fellow?"
She is their friend, with her they play
That's all they know or care to say.
She swims down to the ocean floor
while ships darken seas from shore.
She comes up for a breath of air
and only thinks how life is fair.
A life of conquest doesn't go
with her fins like winds that blow.
She asks her fellow creature mates
a question, then she's still and waits.
"What is that thing that the winds send?"
The dolphins answer "A creation of men."
Fish enough for respect of life,
She knows nothing of conquest's strife.
(Perhaps the aggressors behind September 11th's attack can learn something from this.)
Very pleasing to read a mermaid poem that doesn't have an attack of the cutes! Did you make the jpeg yourself? It's beautiful, and fits the poem to a tee.

I love this... and the graphic is beautiful too. I got chills at the end when you related it to 9/11. Wonderful poem!
