a family thriller

My brother gathered us

in the living room;

Mother, wife, children,

sister and brother.

Put down that pork chop now!

The pork chop dropped.

We knew he was serious.

I am breaking my silence.

I have an announcement to make.

He stood tall, blocking the t.v.,

A man broken by fate.

What is it? We whispered,

Another child?

A new house,

A coveted job?

Perhaps an illness

he could no longer hide.

I need your complete attention, please!

We glanced at each other,

surreptitiously.

His audience was nervious.

I was sweating.

I must warn you

This will be difficult for everyone.

You didn't crash your motorcycle!

Mother guessed.

The children looked alarmed.

No.No. That's not it.

It is, rather,

something I have wanted to disclose

for a long time now.

His raised his right hand,

as if to to hold back

some inexpressible burden.

Please tell us!

we begged,

as he searched our faces.

This is the kind of thing

that clear determines

who will serve

and who will eat.

On my God!

Could he be talking about

Judgement Day

for All Good Christians?

Why this Summons?

Why Here?

Why Now?

Why US?

Dear God!

What was it he

was so hesitant to reveal?

it's just.....it's just.....

I am, I am, well.. dare I say

I am

we gasped in amazement and relief

a picky eater!

Cracked me up with that last line! But I could see it coming. You signaled mighty. If everyone had a good sense of humor like you and I, instead of worrying about the inevitable that never comes, this world would be a wonderful place to live in. Good for you, kudos!
