NOSTALGIA FOR NATURE
Every morning...
while traversing an acre of
cement to reach a manicured
park, I dream of walking
in the dew-drenched green
of a mountain meadow.
Tired of hearing the tones of
society, and chattering birds
in the city, dreaming of the
music of nature, I long to
hear the melody of a
meadowlark’s song.
In mind's eye picture of
nature's colors I see bluebirds
atop an evergreen tree, or the
golden aspen, in autumn--
while the rushing crystal
river below gorges out
its route to the sea.
In mid-day intensity, as I'm
searching for shadows (cement
streets heated to blistering) I'm
thinking about the majestic
blue spruce that offered
me tranquility.
In the evenings...
as I try to catch glimpses of
stars between skyscrapers, in
memory, I recall a navy star-
studded canopy covering all
-- mountains and valley.
And in the interim, I pray
that soon I may again commit
to the purity of un-manicured,
unaltered scenery-- God's
country, as He created it.
