This poem (sort of) was inspired by a news story about increasing personal debt in the developed nations

Sing a song of servitude, obligations must be met,

we sacrifice our freedom for a pocket full of debt

gadgets, status symbols ovrwhelm our commmon sense,

we buy the great delusion, there is no recompense.

 

When happiness does not spring from all the things we buy,

then every move we try to make only serves to amplify

the negative situation and the danger it contains,

we mortgage our future and can never lose our chains.
