A story of a Russian soldier who dies cold and alone on the Russian Steppes during the Napoleanic Wars. This poem is powerful on the surface, but its hidden meaning is where its real impact lies.

Russia
the Napoleanic Wars
a Russian soldier
lost in a blizzard
seperated from his unit

the days drag on

out of supplies
no food
water
ammunition

having Given Up
he collapses
suffering from
Hunger and Pneumonia
as his body sinks into the snow
his Soul passes through the Gate

Robert, I love your choice of setting for the message you send out: the patriot gives his all and in so doing he enters heaven...

On a more pragmatic level: the Napoleonic wars wrought such loss and destruction..one would do well to remember.

Intelligent and creative...I can feel his cold misery...well done!

Sounds to me like you've recaptured a fragment of a past life, something suitable for mediation and contemplation.

Very heartbreaking and, it could be any soldier these days. So many die each day, we hope all of them may pass through the Gate.
Excellent work,
