Poem Artwork
How
easy it'd been
losing touch with
life
.
Somewhere
between yesterdays
and now
.
At a time
when surrendering and trust
felt childlike
.
And still spaces
between the rhythms of each heartbeat
was everything
.
Withstanding every challenge, WE PRESSED ON,
Amidst thoughtlessness and hate, WE SURVIVED,
Despite all buffeting storms, WE HAD FAITH…
.
And when
WE DEVELOPED
beyond the artful illusions
warring against our
purposes,
we recognized
that what was envisioned
was far more than we'd hoped,
for the marrow of it was virtuous,
and the purity of intent was unsullied,
regardless of our role in a boot-licking system,
we would attain something distinctive and singular,
TOGETHER, something we could be proud of…
.
Now
new hope
reigned
.
With all
deterrents cast
on about
.
Holding (both)
the life and beat of dreams
and becoming
.
TOGETHER
more than mindless
followers of trend
.

TOTALLY UNKNOWN TO ANY MAN ARE THE COMPONENTS OF 'HIS' ORCHESTRATED...GLUE...WHICH BINDS... TWO TOGETHER. BUT EVEN MORE PROFOUND, IS THAT IT INVARIABLY ADHERES 'THOSE THAT BELIEVE IN 'HIM'...TO HIM. WHAT IS KNOWN, THOUGH...IS THAT COME HELL OR HIGH WATERS THEY DO 'REMAIN'...TOGETHER. AMEN. I HAVE COME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT GOD'S WORK...NEVER GROWS OLD, BUT IS ALWAYS 'RIGHT ON TIME', AS THIS MARVELOUS SHARING SUBSTANTIATES. THANK YOU RICHARD, CONTINUED STRENGTH AND PERSEVERANCE TO YOU AND MICHELE. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS

Even though written 10 years ago, I found this insightful piece timely and perhaps more meaningful today than at the time of its genesis. The events of meaningful advancement of the species is becoming a rare commodity of life. The globe seems to be separating itself into nothing but warring groups, be they political, religious, or philosophical. Would that more writing like "The Life and Beat of Dreams" could reach a greater number, well, I'm certainly not the only one it would empower to pay more attention to the miracle of life and the inner feeling of wealth, sans only currency.

The catch phrase, "you and I against the world" comes to mind after I read your poem. There is much to be derived when two people work side by side and share the same vision as man and wife. Well done Richard, a noble poem indeed xo

Such are relationships founded on love and trust and the rest seems to all fall into place. Meaningfully expressed, Richard. Love and peace to you,

What better example of words that stir the soul
and elevate the joy of life and love? This is poetry!

In describing your own relationship in this most meaningful poem, you have described a relationship that I've had for 22 years. The support of this relationship has taken me from despair and depression to the positive and forward-looking person that I am today. Now, if I could only quell her fears of growing older and losing me.

In time, even two must split and become one. I only hope, that when that happens, either of us will still be strong enough to go ahead on our own.
