So Let's Talk...

by Richard Lloyd Cederberg — Read all 280 poems by Richard Lloyd Cederberg

Talking is a shared act of aligning minds, not just exchanging information, but co-creating understanding. It is through open dialogue that we move beyond isolated perspectives toward a more complete picture of reality.

Poem Artwork
So let’s talk…
And perhaps then
We’ll find something new
In the binge of words and rhymes
We write… something fresh,
Some new perspective
(Perhaps)
That urges a
More determinate
Understanding of all the
Things we never fully grasped,
When we took our lives for granted;
Running and scheming, alone and strong,
Before walls were built, and the freedoms
We all enjoyed began to slowly vanish…
.
Tell me of inspiration,
(The purest kind)
That arrives without fanfare,
And flows unrestrained and truthful…
.
And tell me why it is
That so many men put aside
Their differences in times of trouble
And join hands in oneness until
The trouble has passed…

Tell me (too) why so often
Some ply themselves fruitlessly
For those who applaud imitation
But dismiss the real thing…
.
Tell me where
The birds go
During hurricanes…
.
Tell me why a man
wraps himself in himself
To find a greater truth…
.
And tell me why it is
that so many keep searching
But never find answers…
.
Tell me,
Is it possible to think
Without language…
.
Tell me, is it true
That suffering is
necessary for growth…
.
Tell me,
Can perfection ever exist
In an imperfect world…
.
Tell me how something
Can be true for you
And false for me….
.
Tell me how the grass blows
East against the source of the sun
An hour before the sun sets…
.
Tell me why sparrows,
Feeding in a freezing drizzle,
Keep dancing in the sight of heaven…
.
So....... let’s talk,
And try to discover together
what can never be ascertained alone…
.

Attitude is stronger than information. Setting the stage for the discord that we find. But you pose many questions that could be discussed without rancor.

I often found face-to-face discussions with others to be very pleasant. But I get so little chance these days. My best bet is with Zoom with others with spinal cord injury. The subjects range greatly, but politically we all tend to be on the same wavelength.

What strikes me most here is the way your questions open doors rather than close them. The poem feels like an invitation to step out of our private certainties and into a shared search—one where wonder, doubt, and insight all have a place at the table. The movement from the intimate (“tell me of inspiration…”) to the cosmic (“can perfection exist in an imperfect world…”) gives the piece a broad, more universal horizon, as if conversation itself becomes a path toward clarity. The final gesture—discovering together what can never be known alone—beautifully captures the heart of dialogue. Such a thoughtful, thought-pprovoking poem.

ANYTIME THE 'NECESSITY' OF 'CONVERSING' IS ACCENTUATED BY GOD HIMSELF IN HIS WORD, I AM IN TOTAL AGREEMENT THAT WITHOUT IT ...HARMONY(AT LEAST 'TRYING')...CANNOT EVER BE ATTAINED.
"...COME LET US REASON TOGETHER..." IS WHAT HE SAID, AMEN. THANKS FOR SHARING. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS

This is great. Maybe not good for speed dating. However, if you and I were in a coffee shop we would be there for days in discussion. I’d say yes to Tell me,

Is it possible to think

Without language…

. And No to this ,

Tell me, is it true

That suffering is

necessary for growth

I would elaborate with out using AI, lol

Perfect pic for starters. Your last phrase sums it up with a subtle nudge to us all to try communicating without a mirror. Perhaps we're living through a period of humanity that is a primer for robotic machines talking to no one, only reacting to their sophisticated algorythymic so-called life. Maybe I'm wrong, but we, unlike your giraffes, are trying ver hard to eliminate the interplay of words and body language our species as enjoyed for a very long time. Let us hope more girafic minds find they need not a mirror to:
"Tell me (too) why so often
Some ply themselves fruitlessly
For those who applaud imitation
But dismiss the real thing…". Loved the gradual nudging you used.
