What is your song about, singer

Dedicated to Ahmet Aslan, my favorite Turkish singer.

What is your sad song about,

A singer from the distant land?

Why do you weep for me, a stranger,

You’ve never met?

The meaning of the words escape me,

Your language I don’t understand.

And yet, my heart is well aware -

About me your sad song weeps,

About love I so much desired

The one I waited for in vain.

My heart believed in love’s arrival,

It just a matter was of time,

For how could it not come

Knowing how much I craved it?

The flowers bloomed,

Then lost their petals,

The leaves commenced their final fall,

Yet love was nowhere near,

It wasn’t in a rush at all.

Preoccupied with other lovers,

It rushed to warm their lucky hearts.

Then misery my heart discovered

And settled there forever

To make the heart forget about

Love, happiness and blissful smile.

Now you, my darling foreign singer,

The nightingale from distant land,

Lament the hearts where bitter sadness

Replaced the extasy of love.

And now, behold, my heart is weeping

Awakened by the voice of singer,

Oblivious to the foreign lyrics.

A singer from the distant land

Woke up my heart and let it know:

Love does exist on Earth somewhere.

Love warms the hearts of some, the lucky ones,

Yet, ceding others to chagrin’s embrace

So they could weep and yearn for it

And cherish the dream that never came through.

The yellow leaves are falling ever faster,

They take along the years of our lives.

The chorus of the hearts of love depraved,

By sorrow worshiped, cheated by the love

In cynic with Ahmet weeps, conceded by the song.

LOVE...IS COMPLETELY UNIVERSAL. IT IS TOTALLY TRANSPARENT AND CAN BE UNDERSTOOD NO MATTER WHAT LANGUAGE IT IS UTTERED...IN. INDEED, EVERYONE CAN RELATE TO A SONG ABOUT LOVE, IN WHATEVER ASPECT IT IS LOOKED AT. FOR, ALL HUMANITY HAS EXPERIENCED IT ON EVERY LEVEL. IT IS AN NECESSARY INSTRUMENT FROM WHICH NONE HAS EVER ESCAPED...GOOD OR BAD. BUT THEN, THIS IS QUITE UNDERSTANDABLE FOR IT WAS CREATED FOR US BY GOD...WHO IS 'LOVE'! WONDERFUL SHARING, ENJOYED, MY FRIEND...THANK YOU! LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS

In sadness, you always wax poetic about your lost love. So well even though your words are translated. As I was reading I thought of two things:

The mournful sound of Southwestern Native American flautists playing their flukes to the wind and carrying a message of lost love.

And, that classic mournful song by George Harrison, While My Guitar Gently Weeps…

Love gain and love loss are phases of our lives, and some singers can capture the beauty of love gain and the sadness of the love loss through the words in their songs. I remember there was a song called, "Killing Me Softly With His Song" sung by Roberta Flack was about that. Good singers and good song lyrics would always capture our hearts.

Beautifully expressed sentiments in this lovely poem. I am familiar with Turkish music and songs and have spent considerable time in Turkey, so am familiar with their sad, melancholic melodies of love and loss.

You express beautifully how music softens the heart, allowing us to love. I wish I could read and understand Russian to know how the feelings expressed here are expressed in the Russian language. Sincerely, Corrine Ardoin
