With fuzzy paws and a wet little nose,
He wobbles to and fro,
A stranger to the world around,
Wond’ring “Where did Mommy go?”
No GPS for his wandering steps,
They hop and stop and start,
With yappy yips and clumsy paws,
He walks right into your heart.
She nibbles your outstretched fingers
With searching velvet lips;
Tries to drink her water bowl dry,
Lapping water in sloppy sips.
She has that certain puppy smell
That brings your face a smile
As teasing, nudging, licking you –
Uh-oh, she made a pile!
Your chair legs all have tooth marks now,
All rules are made to break;
In romping, stomping hide & seek,
Huge messes he will make!
But all will be forgiven,
You will never want to part
With your darling, rowdy puppy
Who leaves paw-prints on your heart.
I think I was a good parent to my feisty little Jazz. I'm sure glad I didn't have him as a puppy or I might have resented those bad habits.
