A little guy rode right up
Said he wanted to be a cop like me
I watched his eyes twinkle
Smile as big as the moon
He seemed so happy a child
Each day as I made my rounds
He rode his bike to talk with me
I gave him a little badge
His name was brightly etched
He thanked me as he rode away
“I’m a real cop now” I heard him say
I took a call late one night
A father abandoned his son
Driving up I noticed the bike
My little friend sat shyly on the porch
His badge pinned on his tattered shirt
He looked up with a tear in his eye
My heart shattered within my chest
He calmly walked right up to me
My dad left me alone sir
I want to be like you
I can be your partner
I became his foster family
He gave my life new joy
A wonderful ray of sunshine
Today he becomes like me
Never so proud of anyone
Tears roll down my face
Memories flood my mind
The day he rode up on his bike
I watched his eyes twinkle
Smile as big as the moon
As they pin his badge on
Said he wanted to be a cop like me
I Love You Son
Cast your shadow well
A little guy rode right up
Said he wanted to be a cop like me
I watched his eyes twinkle
Smile as big as the moon
He seemed so happy a child
Each day as I made my rounds
He rode his bike to talk with me
I gave him a little badge
His name was brightly etched
He thanked me as he rode away
“I’m a real cop now” I heard him say
I took a call late one night
A father abandoned his son
Driving up I noticed the bike
My little friend sat shyly on the porch

He looked up with a tear in his eye
