There's a reason I don't shop at Walmart--99% of their products are manufactured in China and they are opening super stores in Shanghai, Beijing, etc. Go get em!!!!!

For the every growing percentage of working class poor, pay is at an all time low in proportion to the cost of goods, how can they say no? I detest the great evil Wal-Mart...but it is a sign of larger issues

Well said, HJ, but we have a bigger problem with our corrupt government who is fleecing America . . . we are taxed before we get our checks and then we have to pay taxes on the goods we buy, and so forth . . . and we're talking about a pervasive corruption that goes all the way to the top. Stealing two Presidential elections with the help of his brother are only a couple of Bush's many crimes, which will be exposed after he leaves office and he can't retaliate! Don't get me started.

I live in a very small rural town, outside of St. Augustine, Florida...our post office is run by one little old lady out of a trailer, we have no gas station, no newspaper, no 7-11's or Quik-marts, yet...We do have a potatoe farm, where I can get a 50lb bag for $10.00, we have a little sandwhich place called "Jim's Place" and a church...I hope it stays this way, but from talking with the neighbors they hope a grocery chain builds closer and maybe a string of plazas, so their equity in their homes will increase!
I just assume it stay like it is...poor and simple

So well achieved, HJ and the last line to die for! Great images... reminds me of huge billboards for milk formula in the African deserts, somehow. The neon and the tumbleweed... BTW, is that how Las Vegas started?? Scuse my Brit ignorance. We have no spine here in UK... we usually greet our Supermarket Giants with open arms, as if Santa had come to town... Here we blame the high-pressure of life and on being time poor... Which perhaps the tumbleweed is not... But, for endurance and having the last laugh, my money's on the tumbleweed! Here in El Paso Texas we even have the

Wal-Mart Gas Stations

I don't shop at wal-Mart I don't support a store

That doesnt look after the employee they underpay

All of their employees and don't provide

Insurance for the employee or their families so

Wal Mart Stores doesn't deserve my business

Seems you can buy everything there but your children and a bit of respect for the "Little Man" being destroyed so callously by the retail giants. I know how that feels firsthand. Owned a pet store several years, did a good business until it was anniliated by a large chain store. Good write H.

Here in the Northeast, we are overrun with Wal Mart Stores...It is as you say, a time to run away!

we have seen the face of america change, small town usa downtown is all but gone

now i wonder with price of gas going higher and higher, will small town businesses once more become prominent, just getting to the larger stores is too expensive for families who are working 2 jobs just to put food on the table and an occasional rented movie

I have a friend who owns a few stores in my home town and he is completely against a walmart, just as this story puts forth...Fortunately, where his stores are there are no chances of a wallymart coming within 25 miles or so...Though I do have to admit that I use them occasionally, I can say honestly that I don't use them as much as I did at one time...why go out of my way for something that is maybe a dollar less savings...GREAT WRITE!
