I think that thing is supposed to be a looking glass for it (whatever it is) to look through it at you. Somebody from the abyss - a devil, perhaps - is watching what you are doing. When you die, it will capture your soul.
It is refreshing, once again to read your highly stylized poetic thoughts. This one is a cautionary statement that leaves me baffled. As does the image. What is that on the tip of that elongated toothpick? Food?
