Three decades two, you’ve gone unfound No one tallied your discolored verbs and nouns Now they’ve marked you with their reddest pens Shame princess, shamed. Now they say, “U R strange.”
I, like you, have scorned those bled green eyes I’ve worn their clothes and fed their coldest smiles Once even, I wanted to be like them, proper and blind Now I call them statues with unscrupulous puritan minds.
We should have known; they’d never give unconditional love We didn’t anticipate; they’d steal all our virgin dreams Our dreams were bashed by sanctimonious a*ssholes Now all that remains, is here and always forever shamed.
We both revealed ourselves to thieves of thoughts We didn’t place armed guards at entrances to our hearts We didn’t anticipate cleverly tilted words in their prose We didn’t realize, it always hurts when U R branded.
All you wanted was one sweet, charming prince … A knight, a white house, a family, frankly, a man like me … Love in strong arms, your purest desire, met a merciless jury Now your sexy life, is misunderstood, and totally shamed.
Jim, my heart is sad for you and yours! I wish there
were justice in this world, but that will only come
when this phase of life is over...You are a superb poet
and I can only pray that one day you will be vindicated!
Here in this time!
Mary Angela Nangini's poems celebrate the richness of life and love. From the city to cottage-country and the roads in between, Nangini explores the changing seasons of her varied region. (This book will soon be reprinted in hard cover.)
This collection of poetry addresses the nature of time, reflections on the natural world, the difficulty of loss,
contemporary social issues and gratitude for life.
