A poem’s cadence broke its rush’d stride
its rhymes caught flamboyant snares …

Magic Whispers

A poem’s cadence broke its rush’d stride
its rhymes caught flamboyant snares …
I’m told poems die with no place to glide
when, like mundane men,
they never shine or bother to arrive …

Poems are but knotted thoughts,
gifts … finally unbound -
Poet’s tears heal many wounds,
abundant, frequent, salty, bizarre, dark,
alone -
by kissing melancholy souls with a smile …

Alas, my lost, lost, lost
evening lonely,
morning bursting,
stirring, surging, furious hearts,
be glad, allusive bards - you are finally
found!

O but when a verse whispers too slow
let not stormy poet,
lose his creative thirst or flow …
It will ruin our muse’s genteel show -
if words fail to touch souls or chime
angel’s bells …

Let all poet’s lyrics surge for a while
though runners many, many -
pass on poetry’s edgy fiery blazing trail -
begrudge no muse his whims,
humanity needs so many.

Swollen rages weeping refrains
as twilight skies swell, seep and howl …
--- It is here, poets examine then lick itchy itches,
then, endure thorns, spilled ink, and stains ...
When poets explore untried trails -- delight remains.

My thought for today:
Inspiration is every breath I take and joy is every time I read a good poem.

Good to read you again, Jim. "Magic Whispers" is a wonderful poem. And poetry is like magic in a way that most literature isn't. It is personal, yet expressed in a universal way. It an ache, a joy, a revelation and as you so beautifully put it:

"Poems are but knotted thoughts,
gifts … finally unbound -
Poet’s tears heal many wounds,
abundant, frequent, salty, bizarre, dark,
alone -
by kissing melancholy souls with a smile …"

Love that stanza!

Interesting theme. The opening line is an attention getter. The thought that a poem’s own cadence can break its stride of rhythm creates an interesting image, revealing the tension that exists within the lines of certain poetry. The many similar contradictions here made this a joy to read.
