Only a Child

This poem is dedicated to Tammy St. Germain

Lost, confused, alone, afraid, yet in the middle of a crowd.
The hurt is buried deep within the pain of drums too loud.
Covered over time and again, concrete walls will not break down.
Cracks in the recesses of my mind, to this madness the child is bound.
Slave to terror, endless fear, no freedom does the child see.
A child once happy, full of life, curls up slowly dying in me.
She has silent tears, a voice too soft, unreleased from my soul's pit.
As long as I ignore her cries, in a corner, punished, she will sit.
She can't make me face my ugly truth, not a scene, nor even a word.
If I leave her there all alone, her cries of pain will die unheard.
Lost, confused, alone afraid, yet in the middle of a crowd.
The symphony of life's beautiful, drowned by the pain of drums too loud.
