just lingering

wandering
life's many journeys
just lingering
searching for that one moment
in this brief respite
one single piece of time
content in peace of mind

does it exist?
an eden or a nirvana
it's futile to dream
as substituted in cycles
love or hate fills in the blanks
holes left empty
in this wilderness

just drifting
forever grateful
where desperation meets hope
needing resolve to realize truth
wounded, needing to heal
possessing nothing
wandering

life's many paths
where our past lingers
our conversations of the day
sitting around the kitchen table
speaking of our labor
fierce and dedicated
just demanding respect

all the hearts blood, sweat & tears
spilled upon these plains
once noble beasts grazed
slaughtered in the conquering
ghosts continue to exist
just lingering

wandering
upon this field of woes
reenacting events of the past
dust clouds over plowed ground
sowing seeds of doubt
in this journey of the farm
emotionally compromised

just lingering

...I WILL KEEP HIM IN PERFECT PEACE...HE WHO KEEPS HIS MIND STAYED ON ME...SOMETIMES WE'RE UP AND SOMETIMES WE'RE DOWN...SOMETIMES WE'RE ALMOST LEVEL TO THE GROUND...BUT...WE PRESS ON/WE'RE IN 'HIS' HANDS...NOT BECAUSE WE ARE PERFECT OR DESERVE ANYTHING BECAUSE WE ARE NOT AND WE DO NOT...BUT JUST BECAUSE...'HE' LOVES US. THIS IS A HARD, CRUEL WORLD...THE ONLY 'LIGHT' IN IT IS 'HIM'...AND WITH 'HIS' HELP WE CAN MAKE IT! BLESSINGS AND THANKS FOR SHARING.

My goodness... so much emotional, metaphorical and literal ground covered in this fabulous stream of consciousness, Dale. A new favourite of mine of yours. I can relate to this heartily, having grown up in a farming family... yes, farmers are by nature solitary and very much locked-into their own minds and concerns, very much tied into the land and the environment around them... but oh how they love to chew the fat round the supper table at night... Guess it bolsters them for whatever the next day holds. Those who live on and off the land are by far the most engaging storytellers, I think. Brilliant stuff, thank you! :)) xx

I think we are all just lingering, so we best cherish all the good moments.

As soon as I spotted 'Labour' spelled wrong I just knew you were from US.
But the content of the whole poem is outstanding!
Well done that outstanding poet!

I believe we have to take our happiness where we find it, whether it be in small doses in between periods of crisis or a slow steady diet, or perhaps a glut of happiness followed by a drought...all part of life.
