Watching this old talking road
whisper beneath my wheels
a devil on my shoulder no more
gone are it's haunted memories and
misguided emotions.

Now we are companions
our only common goal,
to discover this elusive
final destination.

I leave it to wander
turning off toward my own
misguided direction
and whether it found it's peace
is no longer my burden

The ocean looms before me
mighty and a little God-like
the arms of her waves reaching
to encompass me
sweep me up in a strong embrace
and spirit me away

and though I love her
I'll always love her
this day I must elude her
soar above her
looking down apologetically
as she reaches for me ever still

the pangs of her sadness give way
to the heavenly peace of the clouds
they float alongside of me
my partners in this mission
of total escape and rebirth

it will be as if I never existed
before this day
my world before this airplane
was a bad dream
and that bad dream
I have banished it

the sleep that consumes me
in perfect rythme with the droning
the moaning of engines
is all encompassing
a wiping clean of this
long jaded slate
I awake an infant
still curled in the fetal position
that I've been imprisoned in so long

In the distance,
through a slight winking
of pearly white clouds
I see her.

The brilliance of her colors
the stunning light of her sunshine
her beauty is not in being untouched
but simply in being untouched
by me

and I unfurl
like wind in a sail
like love in a heart
long ago broken

I don't know what will happen
when my feet touch the ground
and this time, that's ok
this time it will all be ok baby

This is my new birthday
and I will celebrate it with you
the two of us, reborn
expelled from the past
after long hours of screaming
and terrifying pain
we've finally arrived
to this place inside us
where life is real
no longer a nightmare

Now we are companions
our only common goal,
to discover this elusive
final destination.
