Consumption’s satisfaction, no

Seaweed tight around each wrist

Cutting vertically through each vein

Back to the womb from whence

The gods be damned.

I am.

And when I wake from the dream

Heart pounding

Sweat falling in heavy droplets

Soaking my nightshirt

I reach out to touch her,

And she’s still there.
