This is for the Special Education Children I work with at school. I'm not sure if it's done yet....
Their innocence is heartbreaking I don�t understand it It�s too bad they�re not just faking�. It�s so hard comprehend What�d they do to deserve, Deserve a helpless life, Life without control Living through another Can�t help but want to be with them Share in their heartfelt laughter See the gratitude in their smiles Feel the hope in their hugs These are my children There are no exceptions I love each of them We all share a connection.

Your heart shines bright like the sun because it sets inside each and every one of those kids' hearts and rises above in front of their faces.I like the last stanza in your poem in terms of you saying to the world that these are your kids and you will love them unconditional as if they are your own.Children have indeed different learning disabilities and they should all be treated with love and respect and not have to experience anyone belittling them.If you ever have kids of your own,they will be lucky and truly bless to have a wonderful mother in their lives like you have been to these children,take care

Dear Emily, by chance I came across your Den. I read a few poems, one of them "Born Free" and this one �My Children�. Both poems are great and nicely written. The latter is especially touching for me as through my work I was exposed to the young handicapped, it breaks my heart. You are right, we feel helpless when we see their silent suffering.
Thank you for sharing and exposing this subject. Emile

I''m not sure what this is. It didn''t explain itself as it spilled into it''s home in my notebook; it simply insisted it belonged in there somewhere.

Daydreams

My mother wrote this for my cat, Dusty. He was, and is, my best friend ( my boyfriend runs a VERY close second). we recently had to put him to sleep.
