To my grandfather who recently passed & lived in Bermuda.'Be Happy' were his last words to me.

The sweet scent of cedar Salt and shore Reminder of distant origins The depths we may soar Thrill and fear in union Mutually captive What the Tempest erodes The sirens will capture Loss feigns conviction Those we hold dear Beyond memory or reach Yet the water is clear Neptune summons Poseidon Their heavens to bathe Shore bound brothers No watery grave Pity masks weakness Mortal convenience Strength challenges potential Life’s lucky six pence

Reminds me of the song, "Don't worry be happy!" by Shaggy back in the days. I'd say that you're grandfather was a wise man and knew that the fountain of youth was enjoying your life. His words a short and sweet and your poem keeps his great spirit alive.

Marvellous string of stanzas that awakes the senses to the different word images and messages you weave together in this poetic tapestry. As an old salt I truly enjoyed.

Reminds me of visits to the cemetary. Remembering, trying to be strong, and not wanting pity.
