CHALKBOARD
Outside the island
Brimmed with life
White caps broke
Black ocean roared
I love you all
Her last words
Scrawled in white
On a black chalkboard
I ran as fast
As I could
Absent words to say
Afraid to speak
Afraid to look
Unsure of how to pray
Sandy path
Salty air
Flee further down that road
Stumbled upon a pool of blood
It was…a gigantic toad
Blindsided and flattened
It’s shocked expression
Embedded in the sand
Ironic it is
How many die
Not by gods will
But our own hand
Yarns are spun
Excuses made
Another glass is poured
Memories fade
Lessons erased
White dust on a
Black chalkboard
nice work...
Be safe,
Karen
